Which COVID-19 test is right for you? PCR (Nasal Swab) Test - Determines an active infection PCR (molecular) testing is the most common and reliable method for diagnosing an existing infection by the COVID-19 virus (called SARS-CoV-2). This test looking for fragments of genetic material (called RNA) that are specific to this virus in biological tissue along the respiratory tract. Antigen (Nasal Swab) Test - Determines an active infection Anitgen tests (frequently referred to as a rapid test) detects protein fragments specific to the Coronavirus. Turnaround time for results is usually very quick and in some cases, results can be reported within 15 minutes. Learn more Antibody (Venipuncture) Test - Determines Potential Immunity It's quite possible for someone to contract the COVID-19 virus but show mild or no symptoms. Our COVID-19 Antibody Test is designed to detect antibodies (called IgM and IgG) in the blood that are present when a person has been exposed to a virus in the past and built an immune defense against it. Please note: *The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) discourages antibody testing after getting the vaccine. A vaccinated person is very likely to get a negative result from a serology test, even if the vaccine was successful and protective. That’s because different serology tests detect antibodies to different parts of the virus. Some tests detect antibodies to the spike protein of the virus, which are produced in response to viral infection or the vaccine. Others detect antibodies to a different part of the virus called the nucleocapsid protein, which are produced in response to infection, but not by the current vaccines. |
